Image result for interprofessional communication"

My proposed evidence based change is the 6 P's of comfort and care for the pediatric emergency patient.  It is a program designed to improve the comfort and decrease the pain and anxiety of pediatric patients.  In order for this program to succeed it will take the support of the entire interdisciplinary team.  A patients visit starts from the moment the enter the department and is impacted by every person they interact with.  This environment and these interactions can have a life long impact of a pediatric patient.  Key team members include nurses, providers, support staff and the child life team.

Interprofessional collaboration is defined as multiple healthcare workers from different professional backgrounds work together with patients, families, caregivers, and communities to deliver the highest quality of care.

TeamSTEPPS is an evidence-based teamwork system designed to achieve the best clinical outcomes for patients by improving communication and strengthening teamwork skills among healthcare professionals. The staff is familiar with this communication strategy as it is already successfully used within the health system.  This will be utilized to support the development and participation of the inter-professional team.

We have all heard the quote "it takes a village to raise a child."  As a pediatric nurse I would say it takes a village to treat a child.  Patient care is negatively impacted without the commitment of an environment that supports, and fosters inter-professional communication.
